Connecting to Wireless

You will need .....
 
1. A fully updated computer, tablet or phone
Before you begin, please check that you have installed anti-virus software and that the software on your device is up to date.
 
2.  A permanent library card
Permanent cards include:
  • All plastic cards issued by IALS
  • All SAScards issued by the School of Advanced Study
Provisional paper-based cards are not accepted for authenticating wireless although for day members and IALS short course students access is allowed for the duration of their stay. 
 

Non-UK Laptops

Windows 8/8.1/10
If you are a non-UK resident or have purchased your laptop overseas, you may have to use advanced networking options found in the Control Panel in order to successfully connect.

How to Connect to Wireless

Windows 7 / 8 / 10
  • Select uol-open for Internet only access or IALS Lib for Internet and e-resources access from wireless setting in systems tray
  • Type in your username and password as follows:
  • Username: this is your library barcode number
  • Password: this is your surname or family name
  • If you get a warning message about the server’s identity click Connect
  • Or Continue

Apple Laptops / iPhones / iPads / iTouch
  • Select uol-open for Internet only access or IALS Lib for Internet and e-resources access from your Airport menu or from WiFi settings on your phone/iPad
  • Type in your username and password as follows:
  • Username: this is your library barcode number
  • Password: this is your surname or family name
  • If you get a certificate message click Continue or Accept
  • Click Join (iPhones/iPads/iTouch only)
Android SmartPhones / Tablets
  • Select uol-open for Internet only access or IALS Lib for Internet and e-resources access from the WiFi settings on your phone
  • For Identity, type in the barcode number
  • For Password, type in your surname or family name
  • Click Join
