WiFi Network
IALS has two secured WiFi networks: uol-open Internet only access and IALS Lib for Internet and e-resources access.  

Visitors are welcome to bring their own laptops, phones and tablets to connect to WiFi. Access if freely avaliable to all one-day and permanent library or SAScard holders.

Software Applications Help
IALS provides a variety of software applications for use our public PCs.  

If you need help with using Word, PowerPoint or Excel, please ask for I.T. staff at the Issue & Enquiry Desk.


Database Access
All IALS PCs have full access to online databases such as BAILII, Westlaw, Lexis@Library and Heinonline.  

The Academic Services team provide hands-on sessions in how to use Lexis@Library and Westlaw during the autumn term, with one-to-one appointments for dissertation research from January onwards each year.


For in-depth software training,  IALS runs one-to-one and group sessions in using Microsoft Word for dissertations for academic users of the library.  

One-to-one appointments can be made throughout the year with group sessions running during summer months.

Computing Support

The Library aims to provide operational support for its computing equipment through out normal opening hours and staff will always try to help resolve a problem whenever possible as it arises. From time to time malfunctioning equipment may need to be placed out of order until a technician is available to resolve the difficulty.

Library staff efforts are directed towards acquiring and sharing skills in the use of legal databases and legal resources on the Web. Staff at the Issue & Enquiry Desk will help you to select and start an appropriate database or website and offer general advice on search strategies.
You can also ask to see one of the Academic Services team librarians for help with more detailed searching or a member of the Information Systems team to help with connecting your laptop to the IALS wireless Internet access service.
They will help at that time if possible or ask you to arrange a mutually convenient time to meet. Such support cannot be guaranteed outside core hours (9:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday) when staffing levels are minimal.
