Content
IALS Library's subscription covers law and law-related books, amounting to thousands of titles.
The content focuses on UK, foreign, European and international law. It also covers related subjects such as politics, economics, area studies, history and philosophy.
Most titles are published by Cambridge University Press but other publishers are also represented, including Intersentia and Edinburgh University Press.
Browsing
The home page lists all the available books. Under ‘Content type’, to the left, you can change the settings to show book chapters instead.
To browse books by area of law, select ‘Browse subjects’, top-left. To ensure that you are only viewing material included in the IALS subscription, look for ‘Only show content I have access to’ on the upper left side of the screen, once you have selected a subject area.
Searching
There is a basic search option on the home page, which defaults to law or legal. You can edit this as required: for example, you could change it to law or legal and “transboundary pollution”.
Search results can be refined using content type, publication date, subject, publisher and other criteria. The list can be sorted by relevance, title or publication date.
To ensure that you are only viewing the material included in the IALS subscription, check that the ‘Only show content I have access to’ box is ticked on the upper left side of the screen, under ‘refine results’.
