EUR-Lex is available to all.

Content
EUR-Lex provides free access, in the 24 official EU languages, to:

  • the Official Journal of the European Union from the 1950s onwards;
  • all EU legislation, whether in force or not, including the Treaties, directives, regulations, decisions and consolidated legislation, with status information, and transposition details for directives;
  • preparatory acts: legislative proposals, reports, green and white papers, etc.;
  • EU cases: judgments, opinions and orders;
  • international agreements;
  • EFTA documents.

EUR-Lex also tracks ongoing legislative procedures and provides summaries of legislation.

The database is updated daily and contains more than 3 million items, with some texts dating back to 1951. 

Searching
Quick and advanced search facilities are available. There is also an option to search by document number. 

Search tips are available at the top of the home page and Advanced Search page.

Browsing
Cases, legal acts (directives, regulations, etc.') and international agreements can be browsed by subject; the Official Journal can be browsed by date and series; the Treaties can be browsed by sub-category (for example ‘Founding treaties’) or by date.

Reading and downloading
Content on EUR-Lex can be read online and downloaded in HTML or accessible PDF formats. The formats and languages each document is available in are displayed at the top of the screen.
