On-site access to HeinOnline is available at IALS Library, Senate House Library, SAS, and University of London law departments.
Remote access is available to holders of current IALS Library, SAS, or Senate House Library cards if they are: IALS/SAS staff, fellows or students; University of London law staff or students; or academic members of Senate House Library.
Content
The Law Journal Library includes more than 3,200 journals from 60 different countries. These are mostly law titles, but there are also some journals on other subjects including political science, science and technology, criminal justice, immigration, economics, religion, international relations, gender and sexuality.
Coverage of the journals begins from the first volume. The most recent issues of some titles are only indexed on HeinOnline and are not available in full text.
Searching
When you type words and phrases into the main search bar, HeinOnline will prompt you to search by keyword ('Just search for'), article/chapter title, or author. There is also a fourth option, to search the Catalog, which covers the title of every publication on HeinOnline.
The Law Journal Library's Advanced Search page offers additional search criteria, including date, country, citation and subject.
Search results can be filtered by date, title, subject, country of publication and many other criteria.
Browsing
The Law Journal Library can be browsed by journal title, subject, US state or country. There is also a ‘Most cited’ page, which lists the most cited authors, articles and journals, et cetera.
Five sub-divisions of the Law Journal Library are available from the HeinOnline home page: American Bar Association Journals, Core U.S. Journals, Criminal Justice Journals, International and non-US Journals and Most-Cited Law Journals.
Reading
Content is displayed in PDF format as a default. The PDFs are images of text and are not all fully accessible. There is an option to view content as plain text by clicking the ‘Text of this Page’ icon on the menu at the top of the document
Printing, downloading and emailing
To download an accessible PDF version of a document, click on the ‘Download PDF’ icon on the menu at the top of the document.
There is also a ‘Print/Download options' icon on this menu for further options. This allows downloads as PDF or plain text.
A link to a document can also be sent by email by selecting the ‘Email PDF link’ icon.
TIP: ‘Current Section’ in the Print/Download dialog box means the document that you have displayed, for example, a whole journal article.
Help
There is a ‘Search help’ link under the search bar.
