Description

Official record of the UK's treaty obligations under international law. Includes the text of treaties from 1892 onwards and brief details of older treaties.

More Information

UK Treaties Online (UKTO) is an official record of the United Kingdom's treaty obligations under international law, provided by the Treaty Section at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. It includes the text of treaties from 1892 onwards and brief details of older treaties.

Access
UKTO is available to all.

Content
The UKTO database contains records of treaties to which the UK is or has been a party, over 15,000 treaties in total. For each treaty, it gives the title, signatories, dates of signature and entry into force, place of signature, subject, publication details and other information. For those published in the UK Treaty Series (1892 onwards), the text is also available.

Searching
Basic and advanced search facilities are available.

The basic search box searches the treaty texts as well as the metadata. Advanced Search covers the metadata only, such as the title, date of signature and country.

To sort by date or other criteria, select ‘column format’ using the icons at the top of the search results list, then click on a column heading, e.g. Date of Signature.

Printing, downloading and emailing
To print, download or email the metadata for two or more treaties, select from the results page using the tick-boxes, then click on the download icon (top-right) and select print, export or email. Downloaded files appear at the bottom of the browser window.

To print, download or email the text and/or metadata of a single treaty, click on its title to open the full UKTO record, then click on the download icon and select the required options. The text of treaties can be read and downloaded in PDF format, most of which are fully accessible.
