Introduction to PaperCut

 

IALS uses PaperCut to provide printing, photocopying and scanning facilities to its library users. You will need to register online for an IALS-PaperCut account and have money in it before you can print, copy or scan. 

Registering for an Account

 

You will need your plastic IALS library card to register for an account. 

  • Go to https://catalogue.libraries.london.ac.uk/search~S6/, click on Log in, enter your name and your IALS library card barcode number and click Submit. 
  • Under Photocopying, Printing & Scanning, tick the box and click Create a Print/Copy Account. 
  • You will receive an email from Information Systems confirming your details.

If you are unsure what to do, just ask a member of staff at the Enquiries Desk who will create an account for you.

 

Adding Credit

 

Online

Users can top up their credit remotely via their PaperCut account.    

  • Go to https://printing.london.ac.uk (there is a shortcut called IALS-UOL Printing Portal on our computers) and follow the steps below:   
  • Log in to your account with your IALS-PaperCut account username and password. 
  • Select Add Credit.Choose a value from Amount to add. Then click Add Value. 

You will be redirected to the payment gateway where you can enter your card details. Once the payment has been processed you will be redirected back to the PaperCut interface. 

 

Onsite

Users are welcome to top up by asking staff at the Library Enquiries desk.  IALS no longer takes cash payments so please be ready with your debit or credit card.  A receipt is issued for all payments made this way.

Logging on to the Multi Functional Device 

 

You can log on to one of the MFDs at IALS to photocopy, scan or print.   

If you have a plastic IALS library card just tap the card on the MFD to log on automatically once you have assigned the account to your card.   

If you have a temporary paper card log on manually at one of the MFDs using the username and password you created.

  • Tap the card on the sensor located on each MDF.
  • Enter your username and password.
  • Tap OK.
  • The card is now assigned to the PaperCut account.

 

Photocopying

 

  • Log on to one of the copiers using your IALS plastic library card or manually by entering your username and password for your IALS-PaperCut account.
  • Tap Device Functions.
  • Select paper size, b & w/colour, single or double-sided options as required.
  • Press Start to photocopy.
  • Press the Home button and Log out when finished.

Printing 

 

From Library PCs

  • Send your print job to the default printer.
  • You will be asked to log in – use your IALS-PaperCut account username and password.
  • Your account balance will be displayed.
  • Go to one of the copiers and log in to retrieve your document.
  • Right-click your balance to Log out/Exit.

Please note that your money will not be deducted from your account until you release the print job. Unprinted jobs will be held in the queue for 24 hours and then automatically deleted.

 

From Your Device (Laptop, Tablet or Phone)

You will need to be on the IALS Lib wifi network in order to print to IALS printers from your own devices. 

Windows users

Minimum requirements: Win 10/8/7 or Vista, Java 8.0 or later,

Mac users

Minimum requirements: Apple OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) or higher, Java 8.0 or later​,

  • When printing a document select uol_mobility_print in the Nearby Printers list.
  • Enter your IALS-PaperCut username and password for the printer uol_mobility_printer and tick the box to remember in keychain if you wish and click OK.
  • After printing, go to one of the copiers and log on to retrieve your document.
iOS users
  • Open the item you want to print.
  • Tap the share icon.
  • Tap print icon or Print. If you can’t find the print option, check the app’s User Guide or Help section. Not all apps support AirPrint.
  • Tap Select Printer and choose uol_mobility_print. You will then be prompted to log in with your PaperCut username and password.
  • Choose the number of copies or other options, like which pages you want to print and if you want colour or black and white.
  • Tap Print in the upper-right corner.
  • Go to one of the copiers and log on to retrieve your document. 
Android users
  • Download and install Papercut Mobility Print app from Google Play Store.
  • Launch the app.
  • Tap Android settings.
  • Tap Mobility Print.
  • Enable/switch on the service.
  • Exit out of Settings.
  • Print your document and enter your IALS-Papercut account username and password when prompted.
  • Go to one of the copiers and log on to retrieve your document.

 

From USB

  • Log on to one of the copiers using your IALS plastic library card or manually by entering your username and password for your IALS-PaperCut account.
  • Insert USB. (USB drive must be in FAT 32 format. Please ask for help if you are not sure).
  • Tap Device Functions.
  • Press the Home button.
  • Tap Removable Memory.
  • Select file or tap folder and tap open until you find the file you want to print.
  • Tap Print.
  • Select colour/single or double-sided options.
  • Press Start button.
  • Tap Remove Memory or Back to List to choose next file.
  • Press the Home button and Log out when finished.

 

Using Webprint

Our web print facility is currently offline for remote access via the link below.  Should you need to use this, please use one of our PCs here at IALS or alternatively your laptop and the mobility print driver.

  • Log in to your Papercut account on their device at printing.london.ac.uk.
  • Select web print from the left-hand menu.
  • Select option to print in colour or black and white.
  • Upload a document from your device.

The following file types are allowed:

  • PDF.
  • Picture Files: bmp, dib, gif, jfif, jif, jpe, jpeg, jpg, png, tif, tiff.
  • You can send print jobs before leaving home, ready to print on your arrival at IALS.

At the moment Microsoft Word files are not supported but can be converted using Save As in Word and selecting PDF ready for printing.
Some problems have been noted when trying to print from Apple devices.

Scanning 

 

To an Email Account

  • Log on to one of the copiers using your IALS plastic library card or manually by entering your username and password for your IALS-PaperCut account.
  • Place your original on the glass or in the sheet feeder.
  • Tick the ‘Prompt for more pages’ box to scan more than one page in a document.
  • Tap Scan and then Scan to My Email.
  • Log out when finished.

The scanned document will be emailed to the email address you entered when you joined the library. You can change your email address by logging on at https://catalogue.libraries.london.ac.uk/search~S6/.

 

To a USB

  • Log on to one of the copiers using your IALS plastic library card or manually by entering your username and password for your IALS-PaperCut account.
  • Insert USB. (USB drive must be in FAT 32 format. Please ask for help if you are not sure).
  • Tap Device Functions.
  • Press the Home button.
  • Tap Removable Memory.
  • Select file or tap folder and tap open until you find the file you want to print.
  • Tap Print.
  • Select colour/single or double-sided options.
  • Press Start button.
  • Tap Remove Memory or Back to List to choose next file.
  • Press the Home button and Log out when finished.

Please ensure you only top up your account with as much money as you need to use in the immediate future as no refunds will be given under any circumstances except in the event of a machine malfunction.


Receipts will not be issued for online payments. However, you will be able to either print or email yourself your transaction history which will show the amount you have paid.
