Info for new students

Research facilitation

For many years, IALS library has been at the forefront of training and development, both of future law librarians and future lawyers! Every Autumn term, we run a comprehensive training programme open to all new students covering everything from basic familiarisation with UK legal resources, skills for finding legal materials online, and database analysis, as well as many tailored subject and jurisdiction specific training. Our friendly and capable reference team can also arrange one to one sessions to discuss legal research methodology specific to your own research interests. Additionally, full support is offered with the technical aspects of essay writing, from correctly formatting documents to checking citations. Just ask to speak to a member of the reference team for more information.

Training programme

Each year we offer a programme of training sessions. All IALS Library members are invited to attend.

Ask a librarian

The IALS Library enquiry service is available 09:30 to 17:00, Monday to Friday. We aim to answer all enquiries within one working day. You can ask us about the IALS Library collections of legislation, law reports, books and journals, and electronic resources. You can also find out more about the Library's services. You can discuss your enquiry with a member of IALS Library staff.

Full contact information is available on the Contact Us page of our website. Please email us at ials@sas.ac.uk or contact us via our Live Chat. Alternatively, you can phone the Library on 02078625790. If you contact us via any of these methods outside of the standard opening hours listed above, we will get back to you on the next opening day.
